Horses and Hot Tubs: Last Day in Wildeberg
Today is our last full day in Wildeberg, and Gabe has a special evening planned. We are planning on sightseeing along the way.
LeeAnn’s day began with a horseback ride. She was in heaven!!! She mentioned to our host that she used to ride horses, and she invited her to go on a ride with her. It was an incredible opportunity and I am so grateful she got to experience the Switzerland hillsides on horseback.
I took advantage of the morning by catching up on my writing, while Gabe exercised and Joe caught up on sleep.
After she returned from her morning ride, we hopped in the car and headed to a zoo; it reminded me of a zoo we once went to in Maine. It is called the Wild Park Bruderhaus. A lot of enclosures, and some animals. Some you could see, and some you could not. I was most impressed by the wolves. I do not highly recommend this activity.
Our next stop was Jucker Farms in Pfaffkon. They were having a company team-building event so it seemed that was their focus, with little to see or do for “regular” tourists. The views of the lake were lovely, and I enjoyed seeing all of the different varieties of squash and other food items.
Once again, I do not think I would recommend this as an activity.
Next, we went to Rapperswil where we walked around, looked for something to eat, and stumbled upon a church. It was understated, and refreshing with a lovely pipe organ. I always enjoy churches, so much history and art; stained glass windows and murals. And a bonus feature is that it is typically cool inside. Once again, the graves in the churchyard were from recent years. I find this curious.
Today is extremely hot, and the heat doesn’t mix well with my CML. I have an umbrella to Block the sun which has been a lifesaver, and I have also utilized the water in many fountains to douse myself. It is cold and refreshing. I love that there are fountains everywhere, providing running water to refill our water bottles.
Out of options for food, for less than $45 a plate for lunch, we did something we had never done before; we grabbed some food at McDonalds! The views of the lake were stunning, and the iced coffee and chicken salad were pretty darn good. The burger and fries that the boys had tasted just like home. Talk about a letdown!
Our biggest adventure of the day was Alpenbad, a hot tub fondue experience, The hot tubs are perched on a hillside with fantastic views of the Alps. They are richly filled with spring water from the Bachtel-Nagelfluh and the temperature is easily controlled by opening and closing the stove. They also provide you with a cold water hose in case you get too hot. You can also sleep under a bubble, under the stars, if you so choose.
Our host, Sonja was so kind and despite her broken English and our complete lack of German, we had a great time.
The views were to die for! We sat in the hot tub, on top of a mountain, with cowbells ringing in the distance, eating fondue, and drinking Lillet Wildeberg cocktails for two and a half hours and did not turn into prunes!
It was the perfect way to end our time in this area of Switzerland. Off to Lucerne tomorrow.
I highly recommend Alpenbad Hot Tubs for a remarkable, unforgettable experience.
After arriving “home” we relaxed for a while before falling into a deep slumber.
Night y’all.
